Dr. Leslie Howard Sperling was internationally known for his work with polymer materials and mentored many students and post-docs during his tenure at Lehigh University. He was a prolific author, with over 250 publications, 7 patents, and 15 books. The books include both edited works based on PMSE and POLY symposia and authored books, such as his widely used textbook Introduction to Physical Polymer Science. He was a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, as well as a PMSE Fellow and PMSE Distinguished Service Award Winner. It is with sadness we note his passing, but with pride we celebrate his impact on and advancement of people and polymers.
In addition to invited talks honoring his contributions to polymer science, technical papers are solicited on interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) and polymer blends. Other topics of interest include the mechanical and morphological aspects of polymers, especially failure mechanisms and sound and vibrational damping.
