Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering Division

PMSE Awards

The PMSE Division awards honor scientific achievement, co-operative research, and outstanding service in the field of polymeric science and materials.

Awards are aligned to be announced slightly before either the Spring and Fall ACS National Meetings.

Award Announcements for the Spring National Meeting

The ACS Award in Applied Polymer Science

This award has been to recognize and encourage outstanding achievements in the science and engineering of elastomers, plastics, coatings, polymer composites and related fields.

Cooperative Research Award in Polymer Science and Engineering

Sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company

in recognition of sustained research between polymer scientists working on behalf of industry and those in either the academic community or at national laboratories.

PMSE Fellows

To honor a small percentage of PMSE members who have made significant contributions to the science and engineering of polymeric materials.

Distinguished Service Award

To honor outstanding contributions to the long-term welfare of the Division.

Award Announcements for the Fall National Meeting

Roy W. Tess Award in Coatings

After the change from the Division of Organic Coatings and Plastics Chemistry to the Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering in 1986, this award was established to maintain the link to the previous focus of the division.  This award recognizes outstanding contributions in coatings science, technology and engineering.

The Journal of Polymer Science Innovation Award

Established in 2012, this award celebrate significant research innovation and achievement in a polymer scientist under 40.

Award for Outstanding Graduate Research in Polymer Chemistry

The Polymer Education Committee (POLYED) of the ACS Divisions of Polymer Chemistry and of Polymeric Sciences and Engineering annually awards the National Starch & Chemical Award for Outstanding Graduate Research in Polymer Chemistry. The award recognizes a recent Ph.D. graduate who has completed the most outstanding thesis in the design, synthesis and physical chemistry of polymers.

The Eastman Chemical Student Award in Applied Polymer Science

Established by the Joint Polymer Education Committee of the ACS Divisions of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering and Polymer Chemistry.  It is awarded to the author of the best research paper presented at the ACS fall meeting. It is sponsored by Eastman Chemical, a global specialty chemical company that produces a broad range of products found in items people use every day.

PMSE Members selected as ACS Fellows

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Fellows Program was created by the ACS Board of Directors in December 2008 to recognize members of ACS for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession, and the Society.  We applaud and recognize PMSE members who have been inducted as ACS Fellows

Continuing National Meeting Awards and Symposia

Arthur K. Doolittle Award

This award had been present since 1981 to the best paper presented at National ACS meetings within the PMSE division through a generous fund created by the Union Carbide Corporation.
