POLY/PMSE student chapter reports

Posted on December 11, 2016 at 5:00 PM

Hello ACS POLY/PMSE student chapters -

As we approach the end of 2016, it's time to pull together yearly progress reports for POLY/PMSE student chapters. Please let us know what great things you've been doing in the name of polymer science! You can include efforts such as member education, community outreach, career development, social activities, and any other activities you want to share, including your plans for 2017.

The submission form and roster spreadsheet are attached. Please email these completed documents to sara.orski@nist.gov by February 6th, 2017. PMSE and POLY will provide some financial support to student chapters based on your current membership - so please let us know who is in your chapter.

Chapter reports will be read and evaluated by a panel of non-academic scientists. The award for Outstanding Chapter of the Year will be presented at the Spring 2017 ACS meeting in San Francisco.

Finally, if your chapter members are ACS members, but not part of POLY/PMSE, we will enroll them with their permission and waive their first year of division dues. Please check the column in the spreadsheet to enroll!

Thank you and we look forward to reading about your student chapters!

-The POLY/PMSE Student Chapter Committee

Sixth Journal of Polymer Science Innovation Award - call for nominations

Posted on December 11, 2016 at 4:10 PM

The Journal of Polymer Science is proud to announce the call for nominations for the sixth year of its international award. The Journal of Polymer Science Innovation Award recognizes significant research innovation and achievement in a polymer scientist under 40. The award consists of a symposium in association with the Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) Division of the ACS and a dinner in recognition of the recipient at the ACS Fall meeting, a $5000 prize, and travel expenses of up to $1000 to the ACS Fall meeting for the award year. Nominations for the prize should consist of a one-page document from the nominator in support of the nominee, explaining why the innovative nature of their research deserves recognition, and an up-to-date resume from the nominee. Please send nominations to jpschem@wiley.com or jpsphys@wiley.com before January 19th, 2017.

2017 Young Investigator's Symposium

Posted on September 6, 2016 at 8:10 AM

The 2017 PMSE Young Investigator’s Symposium has been chosen as a recipient of this year’s PMSE Division 2016 Innovative Project Grant (IPG). This symposium will be held at the 253rd ACS National Meeting and Exposition in April 2017. The objective of the Symposium is to create a signature event highlighting Young Investigators who have excelled in Materials Research within the first few years of their careers. The 2017 Symposium is co-organized by Luis Campos (Columbia University) and Jeannette Garcia (IBM Research—Almaden) and will feature 24 international young scientists from academia, industry, and National Labs. The 2017 class of Young Investigators represent a group of talented teachers, researchers, mentors, and future role models and, for the first time in the history of the Symposium, each section will also feature a Special Lecture by an established pioneer in Materials. A dinner and awards reception for the Young Investigators will serve as networking events and provide a platform for scientific discourse between a diverse assembly of scientists. Due to the high quality of research presented from all speakers in academia, national labs, and industry, this event will draw a large group of students, increasing engagement and serving to grow the polymer and materials communities.
